- August 2017

Big news this month is that Dublinjazz.ie has teamed up with Bagots Hutton to create a new music venue in the heart of Dublin city. Bagots Hutton opened inits new location back in January this year. The owners, Giovanni Viscardi and Brian Deery have been presenting live music in a restaurant environment until now.

Going forward, Dominic Reilly of Dublinjazz.ie and Teddy D Promotions will exclusively program music into the venue 3-4 nights a week. Given Dominic’s background in major Jazz promotions such as Charles Lloyd, Ahmad Jamal, The Manhattan Transfer, Joey Alexander and Avishai Cohen, it’s clear that there will be a jazz bias to the music programming. However Dominic will also be programming other musical styles such as Soul, RnB, Blues and Funk. Tickets for each show will be available through Eventbrite and at the door.

The music room will be known as Bagots Hutton Live. It is an intimate space with a capacity of 80 people. The room has a first class stage and a killer sound system. It benefits from a great lighting rig and is set in a space with wonderful rustic walls and a high ceiling. The decor is modern and tasteful. Other rooms in the building will accommodate diners, so if you want to make an evening of it you can book for an early dinner and then go see the live music show afterwards. Although the room will primarily be a music venue, Giovanni and Brian will be putting together a menu of pizzas and tapas style small dishes for any music lovers that feel tempted to have a bite.

Given expert programming from Dublinjazz.ie, the outstanding music room and first class restaurant Bagots Hutton Live is set to become one of the best entertainment venues in the city. Bagots Hutton Live will present the best from the domestic jazz / music scene as well as international acts.

Dublinjazz.ie will be presenting the sensational Irish singer /songwriter SÍOMHA and her band in Bagots Hutton Live on the 25tth & 26 August. Since Fly made it into the list of top ten tracks played on RTE Radio 1 in 2016. SÍOMHA released her current hit July Red Sky on the 1st of July this year and it has gone viral on Facebook ranking up 1.7 million views so far!

The gigs will start at 8.30pm and tickets priced €13.00 can be purchased from Eventbrite.

The Joey Alexander Trio played an incredible concert in the NCH on the 12th July. The next day they jetted off to The Montreux Jazz Festival. Grainne Farren was at the concert and reviewed the event for Dublinjazz.ie. You can read the full review HERE.

Following a very successful appearance at The National Concert Hall on the 12th July when they opened for The Joey Alexander Trio, Colette Cassidy & Nigel Clark will be playing a series of gigs at the wonderful new music venue Bagots Hutton Live. Their first show will be on Wednesday 6th September; they will follow that up with shows on Wednesday the 13th. All shows will begin at 8.30pm and tickets for the events will be €12.00.

Matthias Winkler came to Dublin in 2013 to complete his studies in Jazz performances at Newpark Music Centre. He graduated in 2016 along with pianist Graeme Bourke and Bass player Eoin O’Halloran. They formed Ätsch along with drummer Hugh Denman. The name comes from a German children’s word for “fooled you” and it has some significance in describing the style of music they play because although they may seem to play music that sounds like normal jazz they secretly fooled their examiners and played their own style. (It could be a great urban myth in the future? Click HERE to read the complete review.

Teddy D Promotions has built up a reputation of bringing world class jazz performers to Dublin over the last 4 – 5 years – Ahmad Jamal, Charles Lloyd, Ernie Watts, Jimmy Cobb, The Manhattan Transfer, Avishai Cohen and this year Joey Alexander.

Well hopefully that reputation is due to be enhanced this Autumn when we will be announcing a Dublin concert with the superb Cassandra Wilson. Tickets have not gone on sale yet but in a tradition of valuing the support of Dublinjazz.ie subscribers  we will be making an exclusive pre-sale ticket offer in our next email to you.

So tell your friends, family and work colleagues to signup to the Dublinjazz.ie Jazz-Zine located on the homepage of www.Dublinjazz.ie and be ready for the big announcement of Cassandra Wilson and a very very interesting featured guest.
